Job Description

General Summary: The central role of the Care Team Assistant I is to relieve the Registered Nurse of clerical or secretarial duties; thus allowing the Registered Nurse to focus more directly on clinical care. A Care Team Assistant I role is limited to documentation and efficiency management for the Registered Nurse. The Care Team Assistant I is an unlicensed person and exclusively non-clinical. The Care Team Assistant I works under the supervision of a licensed nurse, performing documentation on behalf of the nurse into the Electronic Medical Record or written chart. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Care Team Assistant I enters information into the patient’s electronic or written chart. All documentation is reviewed and/or edited by the Registered Nurse. Documentation is signed with an attestation by the Registered Nurse, attesting that the Care Team Assistant I’s charting is thorough and accurately reflects all duties performed. Care Team Assistant I adheres to all necessary agency rules and facility’s compliance plan. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining respectful relationships. Job Duties and Responsibilities: ● Demonstrates a thorough understanding of ScribeAmerica and Florida Hospital’s Core Values as outlined by the organizations. ● Real time charting as the nurse obtains history, examines, and cares for patients ● Documents history, physical exam, nursing care plans, and patient progression ● Locate and obtain past medical histories and past results and studies ● Checks on status and timeliness of labs, imaging studies, and other patient care ● Appropriately communicating with patients, families, and staff ● Follow CDC isolation guidelines and demonstrate appropriate use of PPE, perform handwashing according to policy, and enforce safety regulations ● Participates in practice changes as a result of performance improvement activities ● Performs a variety of non-clinical tasks to assist the nurse ● Comply with all national and local PHI laws including HIPAA and HITECH ● Comply with all facility, department, company policies and procedures Copyrighted property of ScribeAmerica, LLC. ScribeAmerica Proprietary Material 1 Required Education and Pre-requisites ● High School/ GED Required ● Associate Degree preferred ● Completion of Medical Terminology and Anatomy preferred ● Typing speed of 50+ WPM ● Strong computer skills ● Exemplary work ethic and professionalism ● Exemplary verbal and written communication skills Training: Each Care Team Assistant I must successfully complete pre-clinical classroom training covering: ● Medicolegal nursing documentation ● Medical facility flow ● Efficiency management ● Medical terminology and pathophysiology ● Physical exam ● PHI/HIPAA/HITECH Upon successful completion of classroom training and passing a final exam: ● Onsite training with Trainer and Registered Nurse ● Initial Competency Assessment ● Facility-specific training Competency and Evaluations: A ScribeAmerica local manager conducts monthly chart reviews and Care Team Assistant I evaluations to monitor the performance of employees on staff. ScribeAmerica performs a 90 day and Annual Evaluation/ Competency for each Care Team Assistant on staff to assess overall performance, continued competency, and their sustained adherence to their scope of practice. ScribeAmerica Proprietary Material 2 ● Must be able to stand for long periods of time ● Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle documents, bend and stoop as needed, and reach with hands and arms ● Require to utilize a computer and keyboard regularly There is the possibility of exposure to internal environmental conditions, such as noise, infectious/communicable diseases, chemicals, fumes, odors, gases and dusts. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time or part-time position and hours of work and days vary Monday through Sunday depending on the facility contract and hours needed. Shifts are typically 12 hours long. Travel Travel is expected occasionally for this position between local hospitals and medical facilities, as required by the particular program.
