Job Description
e-staff is seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Safety & Risk Manager. Our client is an established construction contractor that is based in Birmingham. e-staff is seeking candidates with 5 years of management experience in Safety & Risk . We are specifically seeking candidates in the mining, manufacturing and construction industry.

Preferred candidates will have a vast knowledge and experience with OSHA, DOT and MSHA.

The Safety & Risk Manager will require occasional travel and is responsible for the following territories: AL, MS, GA, TN, KY, FL, LA, NC, SC, VA and TX.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

● Drive the implementation of the company’s overall safety program and policies

o Serve as primary training resource for site employees and safety representatives

o Advise the Safety Director of compliance concerns or general safety concerns

● Assist in modifying plans or procedures to address

o Inform and train subcontractors as needed in company safety requirements

o Design and conduct new-hire safety orientation

● Carry out procedures and protocols to develop and implement safety program activities including:

o Job Safety Analysis for new sites or new activities at existing sites

● Personally lead or train site safety representatives to conduct

o Create site specific safety plans as required by owners

● Train location personnel in plans for their site

o Oversee and insure compliance with the Hazard Communication Program, including proper deployment and training for MSDS material

o Conduct safety audits and/or assist site supervisors and site safety representatives in conducting them

o In conjunction with Human Resources, manage the company’s drug/alcohol program and insure proper protocols are followed for any random, reasonable cause, or post-accident testing requirements

o Participate in daily safety tool box meetings when at work sites

o Participate in weekly safety meetings when at work sites

o Lead in conducting incident investigations with subsequent reporting

● Suggest and implement training and/or procedural changes necessitated by such investigations

o Develop and train site employees on site specific safety plans

o Regular reporting of safety related activities at work sites


● Lead in the conducting of incident investigations, documentation, and reporting


● Conduct regular site visits and report on findings

o Make recommendations and manage the implementation of needed changes as a result

o Consult with the Safety Director and Project leadership to develop change protocols if significant changes to policies or procedures is warranted


● Regularly meets with project management and project supervisory employees to:

o Reinforce safety culture

o Emphasize accident preventative measures

o Report on audit findings and lead a process to discover and implement work process changes to improve on a safe work environment and minimize operational risk


● Assist the Safety Director with insurance related issues by:

o Verifying facts arising from claims

o Serving as a liaison as needed between underwriters and employees

o Manage the company’s network of medical clinics


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises the Field Safety Representatives. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Other Skills and Abilities

Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local and company regulations. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and behaviors and implement corrective actions. Must posses excellent facilitator and interpersonal skills.

Current and valid driver’s license. OSHA certificates.

Education and/or Experience

Four-year occupational safety/health degree with at least five (5) years construction and/or industrial safety managerial experience or equivalent combination of training and related experience.

Valid Drivers License

OSHA Certificates

Preferred candidates will have a vast knowledge and experience with OSHA, DOT and MSHA.
